Housecall Pro is a serious platform for home service companies — dispatching, marketing automation, payment processing, consumer financing, the works. The question this page answers is narrower: if you're one person with a truck, are you buying capability or overhead?
We make Field Manager, so we have an obvious bias here. We've tried to counter it by being specific about what Housecall Pro does that we simply don't — there's a whole section on it below.
The shape of the difference
Housecall Pro is built around growing into a team. Plans tier by number of users, and the features that justify the upper tiers — dispatching, advanced reporting, marketing automation — only start earning their keep once you have people to dispatch and enough volume to market to.
Field Manager is $19 a month, flat, with everything included. There's no upper tier to graduate into, because nothing is held back for one.
So for a one-person business the real question isn't which first invoice is smaller. It's whether you'll ever use the half of the platform you're paying for.
When Housecall Pro is the right call
- You have a crew, or you're about to. Dispatching, live technician tracking, and assigning work across several people are things Housecall Pro does well. We barely do them at all.
- You want payments and accounting under one roof. Housecall Pro processes cards, offers customer financing, and syncs deeply with QuickBooks. We do none of that — we hand payment off to whatever processor you already use.
- You want marketing that runs itself. Postcards, email campaigns, review requests, automated appointment reminders. We don't have any of it.
- You need to plug into other software. They have a large integrations marketplace. We don't have one.
If two or more of those sound like you, the higher price is buying something real, and you should pay it.
When Field Manager is the right call
- You work alone, or with one helper. Everything in the list above is built for coordinating a crew you don't have yet.
- You want the price settled. $19 flat, published on the website, no sales call and no quote form. Cancel and export your data whenever you like.
- You don't have a website. A hosted page with your services, photos, reviews, and booking form comes with the account. For a lot of one-person operations, that's a second bill they can stop paying.
- You bill for recurring work. Set a weekly, biweekly, or monthly schedule once. Mark each visit complete from your phone. At month end, every completed visit rolls into one invoice per customer automatically.
- You want to keep your own payment processor. Invoices carry a pay link to your Stripe, PayPal, Square, or Venmo. The money goes straight to you and we take no percentage of it.

The honest summary
Housecall Pro is a good product built for companies that intend to become bigger companies. If that's your plan, start there — you'll grow into it rather than out of it.
But plenty of people are running lean on purpose, and mostly need the schedule, the customer book, the invoices, and a website that doesn't embarrass them. That's the whole of what we do, at a price that never moves.
